The event included workshops on:

  • Taking part in voting in elections,
  • Self-advocacy – where next?
  • Research on making schools and colleges better places, led by students,
  • MPs talk back – the views of the Members of Parliament for people with learning difficulties.
left out

We heard about research with people who are sometimes left out by services.

The main speech was given by Rob Greig and Nicola Smith, National Directors of Valuing People.

We talked about the research we have done.
With your help, we thought about further projects to help improve the lives of people with learning difficulties.

This was the first event organised by the Centre for Participation, which is based in Cambridge.
We are a group that includes:

  • People with learning difficulties from Speaking Up,
  • A member of the Valuing People Support Team,
  • A representative of the Cambridgeshire Learning Disability Partnership,
  • Researchers and clinicians from the Faculty of Education and the Department of Psychiatry, University of Cambridge.
